Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) Scholarship for PhD Studies

Application Deadline: 1 December, 2020

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) 2021 is now open for applications. Singapore is the gateway to some of the fastest-growing economies in the Asia Pacific region and with the Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA), you can pursue your PhD education in Singapore, establish global links and take your research career to greater heights.

PhD training will be carried out in English at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NTU, NUS or SUTD. Students will be supervised by distinguished and world-renowned researchers in these labs. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred a PhD degree by NTU, NUS or SUTD.

Award Value

• The award provides support for up to 4 years of PhD studies including:
• Tuition fees
• Monthly stipend of S$2,000, which will be increased to S$2,500 after the passing of the Qualifying Examination
• One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500
• One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000

Eligibility

• Open for application to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results
• Good skills in written and spoken English
• Good reports from academic referees

ACU Routeledge/Round Table Commonwealth Scholarship 2020 for PhD Students

Application Deadline: 31 July, 2020

Applications are invited for the ACU Routeledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships 2020. The PhD studentships provide support for research projects on Commonwealth related themes.

Two studentships are available each year. The first is open to registered PhD students from UK universities, although not necessarily UK citizens.

The second is open to registered PhD students from ACU member universities anywhere in the Commonwealth, and to Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarship alumni who are PhD students at any Commonwealth university outside the UK.

Benefits

• The studentship has a maximum value of GBP 5,500 each.

Application Requirements

• As part of the application, applicants should submit:
• A CV
• A studentship plan, outlining:
• The work you plan to carry out during the studentship, in non-technical language
• The likely impact of your studentship work, and how it will advance knowledge in your field and contribute to greater understanding of the Commonwealth
• The planned outcomes and outputs of the studentship
• Letters of support from referees, one academic (preferably your PhD/DPhil supervisor) and one personal
• An outline of the intended use of the funds

Miles Morland Foundation Writing Scholarship 2020

Application Deadline: 18 September, 2020

Applications are open for the Miles Morland Foundation (MMF) Writing Scholarship 2020. The Miles Morland Foundation’s main aim is to support entities in Africa which enable Africans to get their voices heard. It is particularly interested in supporting African writing and African literature.

It can be difficult for writers, before they become established, to write while simultaneously earning a living. To help meet this need the MMF annually awards a small number of Morland Writing Scholarships, with the aim being to allow each Scholar the time to produce the first draft of a completed book.

Eligibility

• The Scholarships are open to anyone writing in the English language who was born in Africa, or both of whose parents were born in Africa
• To qualify for the Scholarship a candidate must submit an excerpt from a piece of work of between 2,000 – 5,000 words, written in English that has been published and offered for sale.

Application Requirement

• A submission of between 2,000 to 5,000 words as a Word document of work that has been published and offered for sale. Please send proof of publication
• A description of between 400 – 1,000 words about the new book you intend to write.
• A scan of an official document showing that you, or both of your parents, were born in Africa
• A brief bio of between 200 – 300 words
• Tell them how you heard about the Morland Writing Scholarships

Wits-TUB Urban Lab Masters Degree Scholarships 2020

Application Deadline: 31 July, 2020

The Wits-TUB Urban Lab, a cooperation between the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Technical University Berlin that is funded by the DAAD, has scholarships available in the School for Architecture and Planning at the University of Witwatersrand, supported by a bilateral programme at the TU Berlin.

The Masters scholarships apply to the following 1 year full time (January - December 2021) degree at Wits University in Johannesburg, supported by a bilateral programme with TU Berlin:

• Full tuition fee
• Monthly stipend (living expenses including: subsistence expenses, accommodation, other costs)
• Travel from home country/place of origin
• The university reserves the right not to make all or to make no scholarship awards

Fulbright South African Research Scholarship Program

Application Deadline: 1 October, 2020

The Fulbright South African Research Scholar Program (SARSP) is an opportunity for South African university faculty or research institute professionals to conduct research in their field of expertise at a U.S. academic or research Institution for a period of 3 to 9 months starting no earlier than August 2021 and no later than March 2022.

A research grant enables the scholar to perform high-level research at a U.S. educational institution, aimed at strengthening academic programs or curricula at his/her home institution. Applicants need to have a proven track record of productive scholarly research, and publications.

Eligibility Requirements

• Open to Scholars in all disciplines and without regard to gender or age. Please note: proposals for clinical medical research involving patient contact cannot be approved under the Fulbright Program.
• Applications for doctoral dissertation research, post-doctoral research immediately following the completion of a doctorate degree, or general professional travel, are ineligible.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously received a Fulbright Scholar Grant.
• Scholars must be in good health. Successful candidates will be asked to submit a Medical History and Examination Report.
• Scholars who were unsuccessful in previous competitions may re-apply. Repeat applicants should revise their proposals, update curriculum vitae, and obtain current letters of reference

WAAW Foundation STEM Scholarship Initiative 2020

Application Deadline: November 15, 2019

The WAAW foundation scholarship initiative is aimed at supporting need based African female STEM-focused college education. The scholarship is open only to female applicants.

All non-qualifying applications will be automatically deleted!

WAAW Foundation awards annual scholarships to students who demonstrate need and prove their status as full time students in a STEM related course in an African University. Recipients will be required to start a STEM Outreach Chapter at their university.

Commonwealth PhD Scholarships for doctoral study at a UK University

Application Deadline: 20 July, 2020

Applications for Commonwealth PhD Scholarships for high income countries are now open! The scholarships are for candidates from high income Commonwealth countries, for full-time doctoral study at a UK university.

These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for Education in conjunction with UK universities to support world class research and to contribute to UK higher education and research to help sustain international recognition of the UK higher education system and for the benefit of wider society.

The CSC does not offer scholarships to candidates from high income Commonwealth countries who have already started their PhD study in the UK.

Benefits

Each scholarship provides:

• Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award
• Approved tuition fees
• Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,110 per month
• Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable
• Warm clothing allowance, where applicable
• Study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas

International WaterCentre (IWC) Water Leadership Program Scholarship 2020/2021

Applications are open for the International WaterCentre (IWC) Water Leadership Program Scholarship 2020. The IWC Water Leadership Program is a professional development program which helps emerging leaders to develop the abilities they need to influence, drive change and advance challenging integrated water management projects.

The International WaterCentre offers a range of scholarships which vary year to year depending on the interests of sponsoring organizations who wish to fund leadership development in the water sector.

Eligibility

• A current professional role that is consistent with the criteria linked to at least one available scholarship.
• English language proficiency
• An ability to travel to Brisbane and attend both face-to-face training sessions in February and July 2021
• Organizational support from current employer to attend the program (if currently employed)
• A strong commitment to learning and personal development, including the ability to respond positively to feedback
• A desire to complement their technical and management skills with advanced leadership capabilities
• An aspiration to improve their ability to influence stakeholders and drive change in order to deliver more integrated forms of water management
