Faster Drone Model Which Delivers Blood Supplies To Remote Areas Has Been Introduced In Rwanda

In recent years, Rwanda has turned out to be that country which is very organized in many facets of life. And well, investors love Rwanda anyway. A California-based robotics firm called Zipline Inc which delivers blood supplies in Rwanda has developed a faster commercial drone.  

The firm revealed the new and innovative development on their various social media platforms. The firm says that the new model has a top speed of about 128km per hour, and says that it is set to improve the efficiency of local deliveries and help the first venture into new markets.

The technology has been in the works for around one and a half years. The current rate of deliveries stands at 50 a day, but with the new model this is to  be scaled to 500 a day. 

“Our first gen system has made over 4,000 deliveries in Rwanda covering over 300,000km and delivering over 7,000 units of blood. This new system incorporates all the hard lessons learned along the way,” the firm said.

The firm has no intentions to remain confined within the borders of Rwanda. They also want to spread their wings to neighbouring Tanzania. At present, the firm delivers supplies from its droneport in Muhanga District.

Of worth to note is that Rwanda is the first country on the continent, and in the world to have such services in the health sector. 

The firms started operations in Rwanda in 2016 and since then the operations have been covering the Southern and Western provinces. 

In January, the Government liberalized the country’s skies for commercial drones. The move is expected to attract more investors in the Unmanned Civil Aircraft System (UAS) industry.
