Uganda: Bobi Wine Officially Declares 2021 Presidential Bid Against President Museveni

Table of Contents

Controversial Ugandan hip-hop artiste and MP Bobi Wine will contest for presidency in 2021.

The next presidential elections in the country would certainly not be like others before it. Even President Yoweri Museveni and everyone in his camp will know that there is work to be done.

The ‘People Power’ leader Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine is no small fish in the Ugandan political waters. One will not be wrong to say he is a 'torn on the flesh' of President Museveni. The president himself will certainly not deny the analogy.

Unarguably the biggest critic of President Yoweri Museveni’s government, Bobi Wine has never hidden his voice in criticizing the long-time Ugandan leader, especially concerning his time in office.

The president himself has not hidden his distaste for Bobi Wine and has used every opportunity available to show this.

Despite being a serving Member of Parliament and belonging to the elite political class, President Museveni has not failed to throw Bobi Wine into detention cells where he claims to have experienced unexplainable torture.

The president has also concealed several of his concerts, placed him on house arrest and jailed him on many occasions. But this has given Bobi Wine more strength and determination to speak.

He has become well known around the world and one would not be wrong to say he is as popular as the president himself. His fame will certainly be a threat to anyone contesting against him in an election, even the president.

Well, the stage is set as Ugandans will have the opportunity to choose who they want as their leader between the two political opposition figures come 2021.

According to reports, Bobi Wine had to hold his meeting at his home after top hotels in Kampala "refused" to host his event where he officially announced his presidential bid in the 2021 elections.

Wine will be challenging the 74-year-old Yoweri Museveni who has been the President of Uganda since 1986.

Museveni has been in power since 1986.

"On behalf of the people of Uganda, I am challenging you [Museveni] to a free and fair election in 2021...We're ready to kick Museveni and his cronies out power in 2021 and I am very serious about this;" Bobi Wine said to excited supporters.

Kyagulanyi said he may not be the best-educated and most knowledgeable opposition politician to take on Museveni, but he's "a person who wishes the best for my country and the general citizenry."

"I am ready to challenge the current leadership in 2021 and I promise I will never at any time betray the people of Uganda," he added.
