The Democratic Republic of Congo’s National Regulatory Authority and Ethics Review board has formally given the go ahead for unlicensed Ebola vaccine to be used in the country in the wake of the recent outbreak.
The unlicensed vaccine, rVSV-ZEBOV, is said to be highly effective in a report published late last year by Reuters. The vaccine was used in 2015 in Guinea on 11,841 people.
According to World Health Organization, there are a total of two confirmed cases, four deaths and sixteen suspected cases as from May 27, 2017.
However, it’s not clear how exactly the vaccine will be used in terms of when it will be distributed and who will get it, the BBC reports.
