Aggrieved Members From Julius Malema's EFF Form New Political Party

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is one of the major opposition political parties in South Africa.

The vocal and fearless Julius Malema leads the party. He is currently a Member of Parliament. Together with the other MPs of the EFF, the party has formed a strong cohesion and stands as one.

Members of the ruling party including presidents, have sure had nightmares after facing off with the EFF in parliament. When questioning an opposition, they are a delight to watch, and their popularity exceeds the boundaries of South Africa.

They dress in red overalls and berets, which they say is in support of the local South African miners. Many admirers regard the party as one of Africa's most significant pan-African movements.

Well, a significant earthquake has hit the EFF, and many critics believe this will affect the party in no small way.

During the week, some aggrieved members of the EFF decided to break out and form their political party.

The disgruntled members led by former members of the EFF and former KwaZulu-Natal EFF leader, Vusi Mathe formed a new party called the African Federal Convention (AFCO).

They hosted a media briefing during the week at Sunnyside Hotel, in Johannesburg.

AFCO president, and former KwaZulu-Natal EFF leader, Vusi Mathe, opened the address by stating that the AFCO was born out of the frustrations of South Africans with the current political order.

Cladded in grass-green camo fatigue with matching berets, a look that bears similarities to that of the Red Berets, Mathe marked the day as the "dawn of a new beginning."

While the details around the political philosophy of AFCO are still sketchy, it appears that they have not steered too far off from the radicalism upheld by the EFF.

In the media briefing, Mathe made it clear that AFCO's purpose was to ensure that every South African got a piece of the country's minerals.

Interestingly, EFF leader Julius Malema's reaction to a tweet from SABC's current affairs show 'On Point' about the launch of the new party shows a complete and total lack of concern or worry over it.

He replied to the tweet with four laughter emojis and a thumbs up.
