Hair Care During Lockdown: Hold on Tight, This will Pass!

Table of Contents

By this time, you probably feel like your hair is going bonkers. And with the trend of people cutting off their hair on social media, you might feel like that’s an alternative.

Well, here’s the truth, you don’t have to take such drastic measures in order to cope with your hair. Even without access to your regular salon appointments, you can keep your hair healthy.

The amazing thing about caring for your hair is that you see the results almost instantly and if you didn’t know the basics, you could learn in a single day. So, the lockdown is really no excuse to let your hair go wild.

Also, realizing that hair care extends beyond just the hair on your head. For men, your facial hair should be in prime condition.

Therefore, here are some things you can do to keep your hair in great form and come out of the lockdown looking like a million bucks:

1. Wash Your Hair

Now, this sounds very basic, it’s definitely something that you know you should do, yeah? But do you actually wash your hair the right way and more importantly, at the right times?

Beyond the washing, you do when having a bath, you should take out time to concentrate on just your hair — down to your scalp. For instance, every time you go out to grab essentials, you should wash your hair when you get back while taking a shower of course.

Now, this washing is nothing serious, pretty mild in fact. Some shampoo and conditioner and you’re good. Basically, it is recommended that you wash your hair about 2-3 times a week.

Now that we’re stuck at home, you can step it up a notch.

2. Use Hair Care Products

Haircare products are about the next best thing after pizza; a very subjective view. These products make it really easy to keep your hair in great form. All you need to do is apply at the right times and of course, in the right quantities.

You might argue that using these products might feel like a waste since you aren’t going out and you don’t have to look good for anybody. Well, you might as well look good for yourself and position your hair to be in superb shape after the lockdown.

Products ranging from shampoo, conditioner, hair oils and serums, hair wax, hair mousse… name it.

For men, now is not the time to let your facial hair become unkempt, you needn’t look like a hobo indoors. Keeping your beards trim is important and using the best beard trimmers just make the job a lot easier.

As a matter of fact, now is the time to focus on your facial hair — beard oils and other similar products. Come out of lockdown looking like a spec.

3. Experiment a Bit

There’s nothing wrong with trying out new looks or new styles with your hair. If you’ve been carrying the same style for ages, how about you loosen up a bit and see how you would look with other styles. Who knows, you might end up falling in love with one.

This doesn’t necessarily imply that you would have to take up your hot styling tools. You could explore heartless options such as loose braids for soft waves, bohemian front braids, front side twists.

All of these styles do not require heat and you get to switch up your look and style too. Now may also be a great time to use those products that you’ve been putting off and see which works best for you.

For men, now is not the time to get experimental. Or even if you want to try out something new, you could try out basic styles if your hair permits but avoid anything that has got to do with cutting a portion of your hair. Ladies too!

4. Resist the Temptation to Give Yourself That Trim

The last tip mentioned something in relation to cutting a portion of your hair in order to imitate a particular style, but this is an entirely different ball game. Resist the temptation to give yourself that trim!

The discomfort that comes with your hair growing rough is pretty relatable. In fact, it must feel like your hair is growing so much more rapidly. Loose strands standing out prominently especially after you have done some pretty intensive combing.

Picking up a scissor and just hacking at them must be a very satisfying thought right now, but that is definitely one action that you want to steer clear of. The tiniest accident could require that you take some drastic hair action in order to have everything even out.

So, hang in there and focus instead on the day that is fast approaching when your stylist finally gets rid of those strands that gave you grief. It would be an amazing feeling, I promise.

5. Get You Some Knowledge!

Now is a great time to learn more about your hair and hair in general. Although your stylist may know what is best for your hair, who says there isn’t something better that they haven’t considered.

Asides from this, you can check out new styles and trends and may just fall in love with some of them. Similarly, you can learn about what products are best for your hair and what styles your hair would be best suited for.

This might just inspire you to come out of the lockdown with a decision to sport a new look.

For men, you might as well just get a new look already, everybody’s used to that hairstyle already. Switching it up can make you turn heads and get you second and third looks too.

Your facial hair isn’t left out either, there are definitely other ways to rock that silky beard.

Now is the time to find out. Get to researching!
