Meet The Zimbabwean Entrepreneur Leading Twitter Efforts To Send Less Privileged Students To School

Zimbabwe is in the middle of a seemingly unsolvable economic crisis. The economic meltdown is so severe that several families have been finding it hard to send their children to school. The brains are there, but the money is absent. 

Entrepreneur Kuda Musasiwa has taken it upon himself to lead efforts to send less privileged children to school. His efforts have been greatly aided by the generosity of Zimbabwean social media users. Musasiwa uses social media to get the attention of the users in order to collectively raise money to send the children to school.

It all started with a tweet from one social media user @millythebae who tweeted, "Ranganai Zhakata from Kambarami, Murewa has 15 points A Level. He got a place at UZ [University of Zimbabwe] for B Sc Actuarial Science but can’t fund himself. He is currently selling newspapers at Murewa Bus Terminus. Twitter do your thing #helpinghand #ThursdayMotivation."

Kuda Musasiwa then enquired about the total fees required at UZ, and pledged RTGS$1000. Several other social media users then joined hands to contribute the money required to send him to school. The money was raised in a very short time, and Ranganai's fees was paid. 

Musasiwa is the founder of Fresh In A Box, a company that provides fresh farm produce to customers around Harare. He has also been involved in local music production. 

Ever since helping out Ranganai, Kuda Musasiwa has been leading efforts to send many other children to school. His message is simple: "Vana kuchikoro please," which means children must go to school! 

He tweeted, "Hey Zwitter! Meet Tsisti. Her mom is a vendor and her dad lost his job. She got a place for medicine at UZ and was stuck. We already had maxed out but called my bro Neville and told him that this child had missed out. So he is paying her full tuition! grateful #anotherone."

In times of biting economic hardships, what Kuda Musasiwa is doing is very commendable. He is saving the futures of many children in a system designed to make genius minds incapacitated. 

One can only hope that these efforts will not stop. One can only hope that more and more children in Zimbabwe will be able to go to school.
