According to new research by the International Schools Database, Nairobi has the most expensive international schools in Africa with a maximum price of $28,479 per year. The report notes that this price point is not entirely surprising because there is a high demand for international education in Kenya.
The International Schools Database analysed the worldwide price data of international schools from 56 cities in 52 countries. According to the report, the most expensive international education worldwide can be found in Asia, particularly in China. Beijing, Shanghai and Zurich are the top three most expensive cities for international schools. The Middle East and Africa, on the other hand, are the cheapest areas in the world for international education. In fact, 4 of the 10 cheapest cities in the research are African, with Uganda’s capital Kampala having the least expensive price worldwide, at just $523 per year.
Addis Ababa and Johannesburg have both some of the cheapest and also some of the most expensive prices in Africa. Their minimum of around $1,000 per year is beaten only by Kampala which is nearly 50% cheaper. Their maximum prices of around $24,000 makes them very expensive, but not as much as Nairobi. With a maximum price of 24,850, Cairo rivals Nairobi for expensive international education and is the second-highest of the 6 African cities in the study.
