The Canadian duo reportedly kidnapped in Kumasi, Ghana last week has regained freedom. This comes as great news to not just the countries involved but the entire African continent.
After the incident last week, negative reports filled the foreign media on how unsafe and underdeveloped the African continent is. The incident was the latest that would have undoubtedly angered many ‘Africa is not a country’ activists.
Many foreign media agencies are in the habit of using every available opportunity to paint the African continent in bad colors.
The kidnap incident of the two Canadian ladies in Kumasi was one of those opportunities. We only hope they would publicize the release as much as they publicized the kidnap, and take the time to correct previous negative narratives.
Canada, the United Kingdom and more recently Australia issued travel advisories for the West African country deemed to be a stable democracy.

Crime and kidnap are vices that are perpetuated in every country of the world. They should be seen and treated as a world issue, not an African one.
The rescue mission was carried out by operatives of the Ghana Police Service who worked closely with Canadian authorities.
A local news portal, Citi FM, reported the exciting news and shared a copy of a signed letter from the country’s Ministry of Information confirming the rescue of the foreigners.
The two ladies rescued this morning in an operation that involved national security operatives.
“Details of the operation and ongoing efforts to ensure that similar incidents are successfully resolved will be made available in a subsequent press briefing scheduled for 15:00 hours today,” the statement read in part.
“Government continues to encourage the media and commentators to be circumspect in public commentary on security matters in order not to compromise other related operations. Citizens and travelers are once again assured that Ghana remains safe,” it added.
According to reports, two suspects are currently in police custody in connection with the kidnap incident.
