Trending: "Marry Me or I Die"

A lady was spotted in the street begging her boyfriend to marry her or she will die. In the trending video which has ignited social media conversations about the desperate attempt by many ladies to get married due to social pressure,  the lady fainted repeatedly on a yet to be identified road in Nigeria saying “marry me or I die“.

A young man with his clothes off, believed to be the boyfriend was heard saying, “this girl go put me for problem, what’s all this na, which kind scam be this”.

In the past two months, there many news feeds reported on how a Nigerian lady proposed to her boyfriend in public in Warri. The proposal was turned down by the man, a situation that was believed to have caused shame to the girl. 

Recently, a book titled, HUSBAND SCARCITY - (beyond the numbers) was published addressing marriage issue from a wider perspective. The book reveals that getting married is caused by stress among many ladies especially on the African continent, where marriage is still held in high esteem.

The book (Husband Scarcity) the author suggests on the contrary that the manner in which ladies propose such as this incident, is a blatant disregard to a woman self-worth.

The trending video shows the lady rolling on the ground, begging her boyfriend to have a change of mind, after making a proposal. Traditionally men are the ones to propose.

In the video, the apparently embarrassed young man was persuaded to at least accept the ring, but he rejected the pleas.

Are we having a lost generation of women? Or should we rather ask, what is the most important priority for most women in the 21st century? What are we really teaching our young girls?
