Jamaican Lottery Winner Hides Behind Emoji Mask to Receive $180 Million Prize Money

You wouldn’t blame her, would you?

A Jamaican lady, simply identified as N. Gray who was reported to have won a total of 180.9 million Jamaican dollars, stole the show when she arrived at the headquarters of the Lottery company to claim her prize before the press.

Her choice of disguise was a big yellow happy face mask with a wink, a replica of the popular emoji used across social media. She also wore a full wig with curly hair covering a large part of her head to further aid the disguise.

It was gathered that it is a popular sight for lottery winners in the Caribbean country to wear disguises when collecting their winnings as a result of the high crime rate and fear of pressure from family and friends.

However, remaining anonymous after winning a lottery is not allowed in many countries of the world. Withholding identity after winning a lottery can only be done in six states in the United States of America namely; Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina.

In the remaining states, including Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, winners of lotteries are required to publicly disclose their identity or forfeit their winnings.

N Gray who won 180,900,000 Jamaica Dollars as part of the May 11 Super Lotto jackpot drawing after receiving her cheque and posing for the cameras in her mask said:

"I am elated because I was drowning in debt," she told The Gleaner. "I started buying Super Lotto in January... Now [that] I've won, I want to clear my debt, invest and I want to do some traveling. I would like to construct a community center for the youths in my community, so they can engage in something productive; somewhere where they can do information technology."
