The Empire strikes back

The Western economical superpowers are gearing up for a new rendition of the age old game of Imperialism, this time accompanied by some new kids on the block: the economical powerhouses of the East; with the African continent once again being prepared and groomed as its playing field.

This Al-Jazeera short is a recording of the sign of times to come. If you are under the assumption that events that have occurred in Egypt, Libya, Kenya, Somalia over the past decade or so and the more recent affairs in Western and Southern Africa are unrelated, merely coincidental, then I urge you to reserve 45 minutes of your time and watch the video in full.

There’s a lot I could write down as a commentary to the video, but I want to take as little from your time as possible. I’ll therefore end this article with a most telling quote from economist James Shikwati who is being interviewed in this video.

What is critical, is to pinpoint an African game or an African agenda, in the absence of which it becomes very difficult to celebrate any kind of achievement, in the absence of a goal in mind…
