El-Fasher has emerged as the epicenter of the conflict, with the RSF, supported by Arab militias known as Janjaweed, targeting the city—the last military stronghold in Darfur.
This call for civilian mobilization follows weeks of intense clashes that have resulted in over 60 deaths and hundreds of injuries since May 10, as reported by the medical charity Doctors Without Borders.
Over the last three days, the medical charity has recorded a total of 44 deaths in the city, which remains the last major stronghold of the Sudanese army in the Darfur region amidst a brutal civil war now over a year old.
According to reports, both conflicting parties, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) – along with their allied militias – have engaged in indiscriminate attacks, severely impacting civilians.
The arrest came after a severe crush aboard a boat, which was carrying 112 people at the time, attempting a perilous crossing of the Channel.
The conflict continues to rage, fueled by international involvement, as noted without naming specific countries, though reports have implicated Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt.
The aid is earmarked for critical needs such as food, water, and medicine, President Macron explained, though he did not specify a timeline for the distribution of the funds.
