Algeria is set to be without attacker, Sofiane Feghouli, who will miss his side’s semi-final clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
In their quarter-final clash played against Ivory Coast on Thursday, Algeria defeated the West African nation 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes, to book a date with the Super Eagles in the last four.
Feghouli, along with Youcef Atal were substituted against their West African opponents after suffering injuries. Atal is ruled out of the competition, while Feghouli could be fit before the end of this year’s Afcon.
“I do not know exactly the seriousness of my injury. But I will see with the national team doctor,” Feghouli said, according to Le Buteur. “Even though I will not be fit to play Nigeria, Algeria will have another warrior to play in this match.”
This may be a blow for the Algerians, but it is definitely a boost for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who are keen on winning a fourth Afcon trophy. The Nigerian team has gradually improved after the opening rounds of the tournament. It also boasts of a youthful and talented side.
Algeria has been a consistent side so far at AFCON 2019 and have a good defensive record after only conceding a goal while scoring 10. Their West African opponents have scored 7 letting in 5.
The game will take place this Sunday by 8pm.
