Feeling frustrated that you are studying a course that is not the exactly the picture you painted while growing up? You easily get along with sharing your thoughts on issues but you on the verge of becoming an attorney – people are expecting you to change the legal system of your community. And sometimes, you think you’re better off an On-Air Personality.
Maybe yours is that you had knack for fixing stuffs – you were even nicknamed ‘John the Fixer’. But after struggling with Mechanical Engineering in College, you discovered you’d make a first-class marketer -- your society conjured you up to think you will be an acclaimed inventor.
Reflecting that you have wasted your time all this while without carefully groping what you really want from life is a callous experience no one wants to tread. You’d want to waste less time on driving off your path to greatness. You’d want to the take the shortest route to stardom.
No doubt, environment and people are vital factors to what we become. It will take an extra sense of creativity and fire-proof motivation to want to be a mechanic in a community where everyone uses donkey as a form of transportation. But really, such crazy thinking is required to be phenomenal!
Now that you are studying that course you’re finding some hard time with, and you are almost giving up to do something else, I have a question for you, why do you think you will succeed in that glamorous career you intend to pursue? Frankly speaking, it’s 50/50. Let me tell you why:
You could be studying a course but you are limited by the resources in your environment to explore the opportunities and reach that climax where learning becomes worthwhile. Giving up is not the best-to-fit solution, what you just need to find a way of combining your interests without exiting your course bracket.
The point I am driving out is that in this age of ours, skills and job roles are intertwine. If you detest solving long equations as a Civil Engineering student, push through college, make good grades and purse a career in related disciplines. Afterwards, a Structural Engineer will need a Project Manager, which requires less calculation.
Now that you are catching the cruise, one mistake you should never make is that you can excel so far had passion to study that course – what you just failed to realize is that there are different ways to achieve a goal.
In lieu of the example I cited at the beginning, we have lawyers that give insightful analysis of legal happenings in the community on TV. They help the common man understand complex jargon and codes in law – you can combine your interest in talking and your knowledge in law to be a more resourceful public commentator –you are still relevant in both sphere.
Career dilemma should not be a root cause for poor grades. Nobody will listen to that, in our age where responsibilities and job roles are interrelated, you must give your best always!
