African Countries with High Coronavirus Cases, Recoveries and Deaths

Coronavirus is gradually spreading across the African continent. Like in every country it has been confirmed, it is leaving a deadly trail across the continent as more cases are reported daily.

So far, only a handful of countries in Africa have not recorded any case of Coronavirus. They include; Comoros, Lesotho, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Sudan and Western Sahara.

Some observers believe that the coronavirus does not fare well in warm climates, thus its inability to survive in countries like Western Sahara and South Sudan, but this has not been evidence scientifically to prove the hypothesis.

There are currently a total of 6,383 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Africa. Out of the number, 5,642 remain active cases, 505 of those diagnosed with symptoms of the virus have recovered and 236 persons have lost their lives.

Countries like Sierra Leone which have just 2 confirmed cases of Coronavirus are doing all they can to monitor and prevent the spread of the virus. 

As evident in the case of Nigeria, which had only 1 confirmed case a few weeks ago; but now records 174 cases and 2 deaths, the Coronavirus spreads very fast.

South Africa currently has the highest number of confirmed cases, with official records putting it at 1,380. 

However, North African countries of Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria have recorded more cases and deaths between them.

Algeria currently has the highest number of deaths from Coronavirus, with official records putting its confirmed cases at 847 and deaths at 58.

Egypt has 779 cases and 52 deaths; Morocco has 654 cases and 39 deaths; while Tunisia has 423 cases and 12 deaths.

The high number of cases and deaths in the cold Northern African region gives weight to the theory that the virus fares better in cold regions.
