Ireland Fellows Scholarship Program for Africans 2020/2021

The Ireland Fellows Programme enables early to mid-career professionals from eligible countries, with leadership potential, to benefit from a prestigious, world-class, quality education contributing to capacity building.
It offers selected students the opportunity to undertake a fully funded one-year master’s level programme at a higher education institution (HEI) in Ireland. The award covers programme fees, flights, accommodation and living costs.
The aims of the Programme are to nurture future leaders; to develop in-country capacity to achieve national SDG goals; and to build positive relationships with Ireland.
On return home, graduates are expected to bring their acquired skills to contribute to capacity building in their home countries. It is also envisaged that they will contribute to building enduring positive personal and professional relationships with Ireland, promoting institutional linkages.
Eligibility
- To be eligible for an Ireland Fellows Programme - Africa scholarship commencing at the beginning of the academic year 2020 applicants must:
- Be a resident national of one of the following countries: Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- Have a minimum of two or three years’ work experience that is directly relevant to your proposed programme(s) of study (this can include internships).
- Hold a bachelor’s level academic qualification from an accredited and government-recognised higher education institution
- Be applying to commence a new programme at master’s level in Ireland no sooner than August 2021.
- Be able to demonstrate leadership abilities and aspirations, as well as commitment to the achievement of the SDGs within your own country.
- Have identified and selected three relevant programmes from the Directory of Eligible Programmes.
- Have a clear understanding of the academic and English language proficiencies required for all programmes chosen.
- Must not have applied to the Ireland Fellows Programme on more than one previous occasion.
- Be in a position to take up the Fellowship in the academic year 2021/2022.

Thomas Sankara PhD Scholarships 2020

The GPN is an interdisciplinary and international network of excellence with the head office located at the University of Kassel (Germany) and partner universities in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.
The GPN decided to name its PhD scholarships after Thomas Sankara being an outstanding personality from the Global South, whose ideas and practices of resisting neo-colonialism and promoting independent pathways for countries of the Global South are deemed to inspire the work of the Global Partnership Graduate School.
In the framework of its Graduate School of Research for Global Partnership, the GPN invites students from ODA recipient countries to apply for a Thomas Sankara PhD scholarship at a GPN partner university.

Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship for Africans 2020
Application Deadline: Ongoing
The Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) provides support for Master's degree study in ADB-JSP approved fields of study at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), and for participation in the educational, residential, and leadership development programs at the East-West Center (EWC).
ADB-JSP is a scholarship program that was established to strengthen human resource capacity in Asian Development Bank developing member countries.
After completing their studies, scholars are expected to return to their home countries to apply and share their new knowledge and skills to promote socio economic development.
ADB-JSP Basic Eligibility Requirements
- The basic eligibility requirements for the ADB-JSP scholarship at the East-West Center are as follows. Applicants must:
- Be a citizen and current resident of a developing country
- Have a 4-year bachelor's degree or the equivalent of a 4-year Bachelor's degree
- Have at least 2 years of full-time professional work experience after a university degree at the time of application.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for African Students & Artistes

The Federal Council is the seven-member executive council that constitutes the federal government of the Swiss Confederation and serves as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland.
While the entire council is responsible for leading the federal administration of Switzerland, each councilor heads one of the seven federal executive departments.
Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries. Recipients are selected by the awarding body, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign
Types of scholarship
- The research scholarship is available to postgraduate researchers in any discipline (who hold a master’s degree as a minimum) who are planning to come to Switzerland to pursue research or further studies at doctoral or postdoctoral level. Research scholarships are awarded for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences and the two federal institutes of technology. Only candidates nominated by an academic mentor at one of these higher education institutions will be considered.
- Art scholarships are open to art students wishing to pursue an initial master’s degree in Switzerland. Art scholarships are awarded for study at any Swiss conservatory or university of the arts. This scholarship is available to students from a limited number of countries only.

MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Program at University of Cape Town

The University of Cape Town (UCT) has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation in its global Scholars’ Program: an educational initiative that provides academically talented young people from economically disadvantaged communities in Africa with access to quality university education.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UCT provides full-cost scholarships to young Africans who are first-time undergraduate or postgraduate (honours and master’s) degree-seeking applicants.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cape Town, candidates must meet the stated criteria:
- Academically talented, must value learning and be driven to complete their education.
- Economically disadvantaged and facing significant financial barriers to accessing education.
- Committed to giving back to their own communities once studies are completed, to return to their home countries and take a leadership role in promoting social and economic improvement.
- Future leaders committed to embracing ethical leadership to improve the lives of others.
- Commitment to community service through previous and/or past engagements with community outreach activities

Benefits
The scholarships will cover for the following:
- Reimbursement of costs incurred for visa application processing

Nuffic Scholarships for Short-Term Courses in The Netherlands 2020

The Hague Academy is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established by VNG International in 2006, and with the support from the municipality of The Hague.
Nuffic scholarships are available for short courses at The Hague Academy.
The Nuffic Scholarships for short courses at The Hague Academy (OKP, MSP and StuNed) cover the tuition fee, return flights (from an international airport to Amsterdam), insurance, and accommodation, in addition to a small Daily Subsistence Allowance.
Courses
- Course on Inclusive Service Delivery & the SDGs: This course discusses how different levels of government can cooperate effectively and involve citizens and the private sector to promote pro-poor local service delivery.
- Course on Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance: In this training course, participants will discuss ways to involve citizens-especially minorities and marginalized groups to create a culture of inclusive governance.
- Course on Climate Adaptation and Local Resilience: The course discusses how local authorities can adapt to climate change and increase their climate resilience. The course starts by discussing climate change projections and scenarios and further explores the policy implications of climate change projections in a case study.
- Course on Local Economic Development: This practice-oriented course focuses on strengthening the economic capacity of local and regional communities. This course will explore strategies and tools for local authorities to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth and decent work for all.
- Course on Urban Governance: Resilient and Smart Cities: This course on urban governance focuses on strategies, frameworks, and tools to strengthen cities’ resilience: their ability to absorb and recover from internal and external shock or stress, maintain their essential functions and adapt and thrive in the face of continual change.

Saïd Foundation Educational Scholarships 2020

The Saïd Foundation has offered educational scholarships and training opportunities since 1984. The programme aims to empower people through educational opportunities and to encourage the development of the Middle East.
What courses are considered?
- We primarily offer scholarships for one-year postgraduate courses in the UK. In exceptional circumstances it may be possible to consider candidates for two-year masters courses in the UK or two-year distance learning programmes.
- If you are applying for a two-year course or a distance learning programme you must provide a detailed explanation of your choice in your application form. Failure to do so may mean your scholarship application will not be considered.
- There are no restrictions on academic subjects but candidates must demonstrate that their subject will enable them to contribute to the development of their home country.

DAAD Study Scholarships for Study in Germany 2020
Application Deadline: 30 September, 2020
DAAD scholarships offer graduates the opportunity to continue their education in Germany with a postgraduate or continuing course of study. The scholarships also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues.
In this study programme, you can complete:
- A Master’s degree/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification, or
- A complementary course that does not lead to a final qualification (not an undergraduate course)
- At a state or state-recognized German university of your choice.
Eligibility
- Applicants who have gained a first university degree in the areas of Architecture, Interior Design, Monument Conservation, Urban Planning/Urban Development, Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.
Benefits
The scholarships are awarded for the duration of the standard period of study for the chosen study programme (up to a maximum of 24 months).
- The scholarship covers:
- Monthly payment of 850 EUR
- Travel allowance
- One-off study allowance
- Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
