Gabon President, Ali Bongo, to be Transferred to U.K. Hospital for 'Medical Recovery'

The mystery surrounding the health of Gabon's president, Ali Bongo continues.

The latest reports on the issue say that the president has recovered and will be heading to London for medical recovery.

The news, however, seems to have stirred wrong reactions because going by the comments on social media, citizens seem to have lost trust on the reports coming from the presidency as they are demanding to see proof rather than being kept in the dark concerning their president's health.

You will recall that when the president was admitted at the King Faisal hospital in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, about three weeks ago. The presidential spokesman, Ike Ngouni, has said it was due to fatigue and that the president had to remain in hospital on medical advice.

This, however, wasn't the case as reports claimed that the president had suffered from a stroke.

Just last week, a court in Gabon approved the appointment of the country's vice president, Pierre-Claver Maganga Moussavou, to take over the reins of the affairs in the country so as to head the ministries and help prevent the economy from possible collapse in the absence of the president.

Ali Bongo took over power in 2009 after the death of his father, El Hadj Omar Bongo, who had ruled the country for 41 years; from 1967 until his death in 2009. He died in office.

Going by recent reports by The Jeune Afrique portal - who was also the first to break the news of Bongo’s ill-health in October 2018, Ali Bongo is set to be transferred for further intensive treatment in the United Kingdom to continue recuperation.

They also claimed that there was a consideration to transfer the president to Morocco for treatment before the decision to take him to London was agreed upon.

President Ali Bongo was in Saudi Arabia to attend an investment summit before he fell ill and was rushed to the hospital.
