We reported the news of Gabon's President Ali Bongo's admission into a Saudi hospital, which the presidency claimed was as a result of doctor's advice that the president who was on an official duty to Saudi Arabia needed rest.
Well, it appears the claims by the presidential spokes person holds no truth because a court in Gabon has just ruled for the vice president of the country, Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou to take over affairs of the country after the presidency nor the family of the president has failed to provide any proof that all is well with the president in the past three weeks.
According to the ruling, Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou has been given approval to oversee the Council of Ministers so as to enable him attend to urgent matters that has been at a standstill and remained unattended for the past three weeks while the president has been incommunicado.
The court said it became mandatory to take the decision 'in order to ensure the continuity of the State and the public service, as well as the regular functioning of the government.'
The major problem and concern for citizens however, is that no explanation has been given as to why President Ali Bongo is no where to be found. There has been speculations on the matter with a media house in the country going as far as announcing that the president had died in the Saudi hospital.
A news for which they received a length ban from the country's media watchdog; but if President Bongo isn't dead, then where is he and/or what illness is he suffering for.
The people have the right to know the whereabouts and health conditions of their president.
The only information provided by the presidency so far is that Ali Bongo has been hospitalized in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia since October 24 following doctor's orders due to stress.
A report which holds very little substance and continues to create increased tension among citizens in the country.
