Onyx Connect, a South Africa based start-up, will start the mass production of the first smartphone made in Africa for just $30 next month.
The four inch entry level smartphone has front and back cameras, 1GB RAM, 8ROM, 1.3GHz quad core processor and will run on the latest Android 7 Nougat. And run between 2G and 3G.
The Onyx smartphone will also be a “clean” phone, Google certified and allow users to decide which apps they want to download into their phones.
The phone will also cater for a number of African languages, providing a suggested listing of country specific apps.
On the universal battery life issue, the manufacture says there is an embedded app in the phone that allows users to charge the phone a lot faster and at the same time give them extra battery life.
Other budget friendly smartphones available in the South African markets include Alcatel and Huawei priced at around $40.
