Qatar Airways is set to start new direct flights between Doha and Maputo, Mozambique’s capital from March 27 this year.
In their current flights, the Airline serves Doha-Maputo route three times a week via Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city. The new direct flight will cut Joburg flights translating to five hours of travel time saved for Maputo destined travelers.
The airline hopes that the new service will ease passengers from Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia Pacific who will only make one stop less to their destination in Mozambique.
Qatar Airways will serve the route with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The aircraft can carry 254 passengers in a two-class configuration; 22 seats in Business class and 232 in economy. During the flight, travelers can enjoy the airline’s award winning entertainment systems that comes with interactive audio and video systems.
According to the Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker the route change is a “vote of confidence in the Mozambican travel market”.
He added that the new changes were effected following a consistent increase in demand in travel, thus the upgrade of the Maputo-Doha flights will help meet the needs in the market.
The Doha-Maputo Schedule beginning March 27 is as indicated:
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays
Depart Doha QR1361 at 06:30, arrive Maputo at 13:40; Depart Maputo QR1362 at 15:05, arrive Doha at 00:10 next day
In December last year, the airline also launched a new Durban-Doha route as part of an expansion plan for Qatar operations in South Africa.
Operating four-times a week between the two cities, the airline will cover 21 flights a week connecting South Africa to Qatar Airways’ global network.
