Like slavery and colonialism, the issue of neo-colonialism is taken very seriously in Africa. This is why Africans are paying close attention to the recent accusations by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire on Bobi Wine, claiming the latter is a comprador bourgeoisie who is planning to bring back the colonial masters.
While these accusations may sound well in the ear and give the Ugandan government the audience it demands, it is very risky to make such allegations especially if there are no facts to back them and if they are false.
The accusations are already attracting negative heat to the minister and government of Uganda in general as many people believe he is trying to score cheap points built on lies and mere propaganda.
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, accused the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine of trying to bring back colonialism.
Speaking after the chaos of the corruption-laden Arua Municipality by-elections, the minister Bobi Wine is trying to bring back the colonial masters by reporting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to the United States and the UK after the by-election.
But, if the government has no skeletons in its cupboard, why are they concerned by the foreign observers?
“Our enemies are those working for the colonialists. You have a quarrel with Museveni and run to the United States to report; you get a misunderstanding with Mr. Museveni you go to the United Kingdom to report him.
“Do those people govern us? Are you a president for Americans or British, have you ever seen Mr. Museveni going to the UK to ask for forgiveness?” Major General Kahinda Otafiire questioned.
The Major General made the comments while speaking at the launch of President Museveni’s sole candidature project for the 2021 election in western region at Booma Grounds in Mbarara Town over the weekend.
“If you want to go to report Museveni to Europeans, when you go there, please keep there. You are coming to seek votes then after putting you into power; you use Americans and the British to lead us. No, we got fed up with that. That’s why we are praying that we can build a united Africa so that Africans can lead themselves,” he added.
The Major General who appeared to be in the mood for criticism also reacted to Rwanda’s closure of the Katuna border.
“When you disagree with your brother, you do not cut down the banana plantation. When your brother’s cows attack your garden, you make him compensate you. Do not kill the cows. If they can see that and know that when your brother angers you, you sit at a round table and sort out those issues... but they have not seen it yet. They close the borders because of a misunderstanding,’’ he said.
What are your thoughts? Who appears to be the comprador bourgeoisie between Bobi Wine and President Yoweri Museveni?
