Huawei is pushing the heavyweights deep at their own backdoor, with the latest 5G foldable phone, the 5G war has already begun. Apple and Samsung, watch your back.
In a quick response to Samsung's unveiling of it's foldable phone version, Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, the second largest electronics producer in the world, also launched a foldable 5G smartphone in Barcelona on the 24th of February ahead of the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Spain's Barcelona.
The amazing thing is the Mate X can download a one-gigabyte movie in three seconds. Wow! Of course, buyers will have to cough out $$$$ for this new bride. Yu Richard of Huawei's Consumer Business Groups said, the phone will be priced at 2,299 euros (2,607 U.S. dollars) when it goes on sale later this year, setting the tone for a new upper limit for consumer smartphones.
"This phone is not only for today for 5G but also for future 5G. On all the benchmarks you can see the performance, the speed is the fastest for 5G in the world," said Yu.
Think augmented reality (computer graphics merging with the real world), virtual reality, improved streaming resolutions, holographic displays, enhanced power and next-gen cloud computing – 5G is going to be significant jump forward for phones.
Huawei has been at the forefront of 5G – the latest generation of mobile technology that's faster, smarter and more powerful than the current standard. It already has 30 countries on its contract roll out but had faced difficulties in Europe and America over allegations of posing a security threat.
"They've been regarding 5G as the technology at the same level of the – some other military equipment. 5G is not an atomic bomb," Huawei founder and president Ren Zhengfei told "CBS This Morning" co-host Bianna Golodrgya in his first TV interview with an American journalist.
5G is the latest high-speed mobile innovation, promising to multiply wireless internet speeds and increase coverage.
"Now we are rolling out 5G and soon we'll welcome 6G. And in the future, I said there will be new equipment that is suitable for the United States," Ren said.
