There is no hope in Zimbabwe. People are tired, deflated, broken. Gloom is taking over. There is absolutely nothing to smile about in Zimbabwe. It is a mess, a wreckage, a sign that someone at the top does not even care about what is happening.
Zimbabwe finds itself in a very deep crisis. The economy has plummeted to abysmal levels, ailing like never before, with no solution in sight from those who are supposed to proffer and implement the solutions. Basically, the country is burning.
The economy has failed the majority of Zimbabweans, who find themselves mired in a quagmire of poverty. No hope of respite. It is just fighting, and fighting, and some healthy doses of hope.
Fuel prices were increased by almost 150%, making Zimbabwe's fuel the most expensive in the world. This prompted the people to retaliate against an insensitive government, and thus, the protests erupted. They have been met with brute force, an internet shutdown and heavy blame on the major opposition party and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
President Mnangagwa left for Europe the day after announcing the fuel price increases. A coward? An insensitive leader? He will be there for a whole two weeks. He will even attend the World Economic Forum in Davos. Is that all necessary? And this is all being done on taxpayers' money. Some say he should have stayed and fixed the crisis in Zimbabwe properly.
It is there for everyone to see: nothing comes out from these foreign trips. They really are a waste of money that could be put to good use. But alas.
For the larger part, it shows that he really does not care. After blocking the internet in Zimbabwe, President Mnangagwa made statements on Twitter and Facebook. Who was he addressing when his primary audience, the Zimbabweans, were shut off from the internet. It just shows he does not care.
The economy is burning. Prices are increasing. Life has become unbearable. The whole system in Zimbabwe is broken. Almost, beyond what anyone can imagine. And the military has been cruel. Beating people, killing people. You name it.
Zimbabwe is burning, and is in a very deep crisis. And worse still, President Mnangagwa does not care at all.
