Uganda beauty queen, Quiin Abenakyo has been crowned Miss World Africa at the 2018 Miss World finale which took place in China over the weekend.
Although she didn't win the Miss World crown, she made it to the top 5 which qualified her for the crown of Miss World Africa.
The Miss World beauty pageant is the world’s oldest running international beauty pageant, with this being the 68th edition.
Vanessa Ponce from Mexico won the crown as Miss World 2018 and Abenakyo beat Mauritius’ Murielle Ravina to win the continental crown.
The 22-year-old was second runner-up with Belarus’ Maria Vasilevich in fourth place and Jamaica’s Kadija Robinson is in the fifth position.
After the awards, an excited Quiin Abenakyo took to Twitter to thank all those who supported and voted for her.
In a post through her official twitter handle @QuiinAbenakyo, she said:
"Thank you Uganda. Thank you Africa. Thanks to all the wonderful people all over the world who voted #QuiinAbenakyo in the miss world 2018 beauty pageant.
We made it to top 5 and took the continental title Miss World 2018 Africa. May God bless you all."
The other beauty queens in the top 5 took various crowns namely:Miss Mexico, Vanessa Ponce de Leon (Miss World America)
Miss Uganda, Quiin Abenakyo (Miss World Africa)
Miss Jamaica, Kadijah Robinson (Miss World Caribbean)
Miss Belarus, Maria Vasilevich (Miss World Europe)
Miss Thailand, Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan (Miss World Asia and Oceania)
After receiving her crown, Quiin Abenakyo said:
“My mother tells me I was a very tiny little baby, and when I miraculously survived the ordeal, she named me Quinn (from the title Queen). That I was a very special child to her.”
117 contestants took part in the competition.
