EACC officials recently raided the home of Francis Mburu, the man suspected of being behind the Ruaraka land saga. Mburu is accused of selling to the government its own land for Ksh. 3.1 billion, half of which he pocketed. During the raid, which was conducted on the 18th of July, EACC officials discovered 19 luxury vehicles at Mburu’s Karen home. 9 more vehicles were later discovered at Riverside.
Officials subjected Mburu to an intense grilling session at the EACC headquarters the next day, in order to ascertain the extent of his involvement in the 13 acre land sale from which he pocketed 1.5 billion. It is believed that Mburu acquired the fleet of 28 vehicles after the fraudulent deal which resulted in the government paying for its own land.
The EACC spokesman, Yassin Amaro, added that documents that were seized during the raid will be crucial in the ongoing case but did not go into detail on the nature of these documents.
30 individuals, 10 of whom are cabinet secretaries, have so far been mentioned as investigations on the suspicious purchase continue.
