South Africans have had a tough 2017 with corruption cases taking center stage, not forgetting the political tensions that seemed to topple the country.
South Africans survived it all.
Based on this resilience, Nando’s South Africa reviewed the country’s astounding abilities to come out of murky situations in a cheeky television advertisement released on Monday.
The ad has been doing rounds in the social media attracting praise from locals.
The ad pokes fun of events in which South Africa lost money in sloppy deals.
"We can lose our money... and get some of it back," the narrator says as a clip of President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla homestead is shown. Then, #paybackthemoney messages are displayed on the screen.
The ad goes ahead to remind South Africans of Schabir Shaik by showing a man resembling the convicted fraudster on a golf course. He is due to complete his sentence in two years after being found guilty and sentenced for bribery and corruption in 2005.
A prophet is seen spraying people with insecticide. Then clip transitions to people experiencing “on top of the world” moments.
At the end, three people are seen carrying bags of money towards an SUV with number plates “WE RUN GP”.
The individuals are loading the vehicle with precious artifacts as the narrator winds up the one-minute clip saying: "In South Africa, we've always fixed our sh*t and we can fix our sh*t again."
