Lesotho's incoming prime minister's estranged wife was shot dead Wednesday, two days before his inauguration.
Reports says Lipolelo Thabane, 58, was about to enter her gate in the outskirts of Maseru when unknown people opened fire and killed her instantly.
She was in company of a friend who was seriously injured and is admitted in hospital in critical condition.
Police say the motive is unknown and no arrests has been made yet but the matter is under investigation.
Mr. and Mrs. Thabane had been living separately since 2012 after she filed for divorce which is still an ongoing case.
Mrs. Thabane's neighbors claim a group of unidentified people a week ago were spotted hammering on the First Lady's door.
She won a high court battle against Mr. Thabane to secure the privileges of a first lady instead of Liabiloe, Thabane's youngest wife who he lives with.
Mr. Thabane is said to be devastated by the shooting of his wife.
Lesotho's third election in three years took place earlier this month in which Thabane won.
The country is still undergoing power struggle and the Prime Minister is said to have a lot of enemies.
He is expected to be inaugurated tomorrow Friday.
