Heavy floods have forced all schools in the islands of Zanzibar to temporary close, the education minister has said.
According to minister Riziki Pemba Juma, safety of children and teachers led to the decision after some schools were left submerged in water while roads and property were also destroyed by the floods.
More than 350,000 students are currently enrolled in school in the region of Zanzibar. However, Ms. Juma said students are still sitting their school-leaving exams.
The heavy downpours of rain on East Africa's coast has also reportedly killed 14 people and left 1,500 people homeless in neighboring Kenya.
