Burna Boy will be performing in South Africa on November 23, and the Afrobeats superstar has promised to donate part of the proceeds from the concert to xenophobia attack victims.
The award-winning Nigerian star is scheduled to headline the ‘Africa Unite’ concert in South Africa after vowing never to return to the country two months ago in the wake of xenophobic attacks targeted at Nigerians living in South Africa.
Burna Boy was among the celebrities who spoke against the xenophobic attacks in South Africa targeted at Nigerians in September this year.
During the tensions, Burna Boy highly condemned the attacks and urged the presidents from both countries to intervene in the crisis. He would further go on to vow never to revisit South Africa.
In a tweet, he said:
“I have not set foot in SA since 2017. And I will NOT EVER go to South Africa again for any reason until the SOUTH AFRICAN government wakes the f**k up and really performs A miracle because I don’t know how they can even possibly fix this.”
Well, come November 23, the Nigerian rave of the moment will headline the ‘Africa Unite’ concert in Capetown, South Africa.
The concert is being organized by Nigeria’s Play Network and is billed to include performances from artists including Kwesta, Jidenna, and Busiswa.
Burna Boy has announced that part of the proceeds from the show he is scheduled to headline in South Africa, will go to victims of the last xenophobic attacks in the country.
He announced on Twitter, where he wrote:
“The first of many! Part of the proceeds will be donated to the victims of xenophobic attacks by me! I really hope we can all keep contributing in our own way to make the world a better and safer place for each other. #Africansunite, it’s bigger than all of us”.
