Fenty Beauty
Fenty Beauty is a cosmetics brand that was launched on September 8, 2017, by Rihanna, partnering with luxury goods conglomerate LVMH. The brand is popular for its brand inclusivity across skin tones and gender, especially its pro-FilteR foundation. The original foundation launched included 40 shades, since expanded to 50. Rihanna, 34, launched Fenty with a dream to create a cosmetics company that would make women feel included, focusing on a different range of traditionally hard-to-match skin tones, developing a formula that works for all the skin types, and also pinpointing universal shades.
The music star Rihanna named the brand “Fenty” after her surname. Her goal wasn't just to start a beauty brand but to create a positive change in the beauty industry. She created Fenty beauty to ensure the inclusiveness of all the skin types, more so ensuring the inclusiveness of the deeper skin tones.
Fenty Beauty Is Coming to Africa
The Billionaire singer and entrepreneur Rihanna announced some days earlier that her luxury beauty and skincare brand would launch in Africa, stating that Fenty Beauty and Fenty skin will be available in Africa starting from May 27, 2022. In a tweet post, the 34-year-old business owner stated that Ghana, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria would be the first African countries to welcome her brand.
“I am a proud Bajan who also feels a close connection to Africa and its people,” Rihanna said.
She said,
“I had the pleasure and privilege to spend time on the African continent, and those experiences never leave you. Now, being able to bring Fenty beauty and Fenty skin to eight African countries and then hopefully more in the future means so much to me.”
Fenty is perhaps the biggest and most exciting cosmetics brand to launch in Africa, where multinational beauty brands are already making their investment in the region.
Fenty's planned launch in Africa is considered a reaction that will contribute to the growth of the beauty of the continent and the personal care industry, which is now valued at over $12 billion. According to the Booking institute, the growing discretionary income will then lead to higher demands for the top quality, niche, and foreign products goods. Africa's emerging economies present exciting opportunities to global businesses for expansion in retail and distribution.
Both BASF, which is the largest chemical producer globally, and Symrise, a major producer of active cosmetic ingredients and raw materials, spend R & D facilities in Nigeria, which focus on tailor-made formulas specific to the needs of regional consumers in the market. Rihanna's Fenty beauty brand might therefore unlock more investment into Africa's beauty industry. Are you happy about the launch?
