Whether you are looking to sell your home or simply make it look more expensive, there are a lot of tricks and tips you can try to add value to your home. Over time even the most stylish home can become a little bit drab and in need of sprucing up. The good thing is not all upgrades have to be expensive, and as long as you are prepared to do some, or all, of the work yourself, there is no reason you can’t have an expensive-looking home on any budget and take up to that next level you are looking for. With that in mind, why not add value to your home with these tips:
- Paint the Walls
When you apply a new coat of paint to your walls, this is such a simple and effective way to enhance the look and feel of any room. Light colours can have the effect of making previously dark rooms appear larger and brighter, as they reflect any light that is coming into the room. Colour is a very important way to subtly affect our mood too. Different colours promote different moods, and this may be a factor in helping you decide what colour will be best in what room. Colours which promote energy and production, such as reds could be great in a home office or artist studio, perhaps. If you want something calmer or more relaxing, then think pastel blues or greens.
- Panelling
Panelling or interior cladding could work very well in a dining room. You can really give it that exquisite regal feel if you are interested in wowing your guests. Panelling can also work very well in dividing up large rooms, which are dual functions. A kitchen/ diner, for example, could have some rustic panelling on the dining room side and painted walls in the kitchen. The good news is panelling is relatively inexpensive and straightforward to do yourself and can transform the look and feel of the room.
- Paint over Old Flooring
Instead of splashing out on new wooden flooring, why not consider painting that too. Paint is a marvel at hiding those mishaps. If your carpets have seen better days too, you could take those up and go back to the wooden flooring and paint or varnish that. It is relatively easy to paint that tiled look as well. When you walk into a room, your eyes will naturally drop to the floor, so if the floor is what is bothering you, why not try painting?
- Change the Taps
Simple swapping of the taps can change the look and feel of the bathroom and kitchen. It saves you having to change the bigger units and still give that fresher ad more modern look. You use the taps every day so changing these will definitely be noticed by everyone straight away. If you need to fix the pipework beneath the sinks, this can be done easily with some galvanised steel pipe and fittings. Luckily taps come in so many shapes and sizes these days, so you should be able to find something that fits your overall theme or style.
- Upgrade Your Doors
If changing all your interior doors is out of the question, there are other ways you can modernise. Think about repainting the doors or sanding them down, and applying a beautiful wood stain. You can also easily change all the door handles to much more modern or artistic ones. Again the choice is abundant when it comes to door handle designs that you will definitely find the right fit for your home. Every day we pass through the door, so if the handle feels better in your hand, perhaps you want something more durable and strong. It will help enhance the overall look of the house.
- Rugs
Rugs can really make a statement and have the ability to spruce up any room. Luckily this is another cost-effective upgrade that saves you having to replace all the carpeting and can cover any ol;d wooden flooring. With so many designs out there, you are spoilt for choice, and you can cover as much or as little of the floor that you want. Rugs can come in much more shaggy material than carpeting, which can feel like pleasure on the feet. They may even encourage you to lay beside the fire with a glass of wine.
- Your Outside Space
No matter how large or small your outside space is, there are always ways you can improve it to make it appear more expensive. Even if all you have is an apartment balcony in the middle of a city, you can spruce it up. You can paint sheds, walls, and fences, for example, and don’t forget the balcony if you have one. Why not add a few potted plants too, which are relatively easy to maintain, and you can move them whenever it takes your fancy. Try a few hanging baskets. These can make the front door more welcoming as well as the back garden and the balcony. If you want, you can get the plastic kind which looks real but need no maintenance. This can be especially good if you are a busy parent with a full-time job.
- Have a Shift About
Moving about the furniture can make a room appear a lot larger if you are smart about it. Some of us move into a place and out things whr4e they first seem to go the most easily and rarely change it from that position. Well, maybe it is time you got out the tape measure and worked out a better internal layout. By making a room appear larger, you are instantly adding value to it. More space is a much-coveted thing, and most of us are looking for more of it. Also, you may find a new layout that will make the home seem new again and give you a different perspective e on your house and furnishings. You may even decide to get rid of some superfluous bits and pieces which add nothing to the overall effect.
