When you think you have seen it all and the dust finally getting settled over the recent Xenophobic attacks in South Africa, then Nollywood comes up with something that makes you cringe. Nigeria's movie industry, which is the 3rd largest in the world has over the years pulled up surprises but the recent release of a movie trailer titled; Xenophobic Attack, is the latest stunt that has got people talking.
The movie is produced by Sam Dede and was premiered on the 6th of September on YouTube. It has since been viewed over a million times. It seeks to narrate the details of the attacks on foreigners by South Africans, especially tracing the root causes and the emotional side of violent attacks as it impacts families. However, many are already reacting, saying it may actually not be a blockbuster considering the hurried way it was produced.
Sam Dede is known to act in gangster-themed movies and became popular with 'Issakaba' movie in the early 2000s. Questions raised include, the location of the movie, plot and the story it has to tell.
The movie will hit the cinemas soon. It is believed that it could help deliver the solemn message of harmony and the need for social integration among Africans rather than the glorification of violence. Ultimately, it shouldn't just be about making gains from the sad tales of horror, but rather the inculcation of values that will continually linger on.
