3 Kenyan motivational speakers promising free money have been arrested in Rwanda.
The three were in the country to deliver a "wealth conference" which they promised people free money for attending. They were arrested and charged with fraud after they failed to show up for the conference.
The three are Charles Chege Kinuthia, Rachel Matipei Nashipai and Vivian Khisa Mukhwana Mutenyo. Kinuthia, also known as Coach CK, is the leader of the group.
Coach CK presents himself as a successful businessman in the realms of tax, accounting and wealth generation matters in Kenya. He also claims to own several companies across the world and has been featured in local newspapers and on TV as an entrepreneur.
The three were arrested yesterday after almost 5000 attendees arrived at the conference only to find the headliners absent. They have been charged with fraud by Rwanda’s National Prosecution Authority.
Prosecutors have accused the trio of sending an e-mail promising over 1,000 people “free money” worth $197 to attend a conference at the Kigali Convention Centre. A Rwandese man, Mohamad Niyonkuru, is charged alongside them. The charge of fraud carries a sentence of up to three years in jail in Rwanda.
