Ways of Preventing Deportation in the United States

The United States has a larger percentage of the population of immigrants in North America. The immigrants have been flocking into the country in huge numbers since the early 1700s. One of the methods the United States use to reduce the number of illegal immigrants in the country is deportation. Deportation has been used as a tool to fight illegal immigration in the country since the early 1900s. In the United States, Immigrants get deported due to various reasons which are unknown to a lot of people, especially immigrants all over the world. The reasons why immigrants get deported from the United States include:

Violation of one’s visa terms

Different types of visa can be applied for in the United States. Each visa has its terms that should not be violated by the immigrant after being approved. Many immigrants apply for a visa without caring to know what the terms and conditions are. While many immigrants do not care about the terms of their visas, some immigrants are well aware of the terms and conditions, but they do get carried away by the joy and excitement of getting approved and thereby forgetting the terms of the visa. The last type of immigrants that violate their visa terms are the ones who are aware of the terms of their visa but deliberately fail to abide by it due to various reasons. Common ways by which immigrants violate their visa terms are:

Illegal work:

Immigrants that have some types of visa like the tourist visa are not allowed to work in the United States. Some immigrants on getting to the United States with those types of visa uses that opportunity to get illegal jobs in the country before their visa expire. Immigrants in this category often move to very populous states in the country like New York so that they will not be discovered easily after which they engage in menial jobs like cleaning, babysitting etc. “Is it legal to earn money without getting employed in the country and an immigrant with a tourist visa?” Is another popular question that immigrants do ask. It is not legal to earn money through any means if you are on a tourist visa as the visa is meant for tourism alone and not work.

Overstaying:

Only citizens, permanent residents and immigrants with special cases like the DACA, are allowed to stay in the United States without any given stay duration. Even though the visas all have an expiry date when the immigrant should renew them or leave the country, many immigrants do overstay their allocated duration in the United States.

Criminal acts:

Immigrants who commit criminal acts like drug trafficking, cultism and robbery are many in the United States. It is always stated in the visa terms that the immigrant should be law-abiding throughout his or her stay in the country, which makes criminal acts a way of going against the visa terms. If an immigrant with visa is nabbed as a criminal in the country, there is the possibility of getting tried and incarcerated in the country depending on the type of visa and the grievousness of the sin committed while it is impossible for illegal immigrants caught in criminal acts to be tried or incarcerated in the country. Illegal immigrants that are caught in criminal acts get deported immediately after being found guilty by the immigration court.

Illegal change of residential address

before getting a visa, it is compulsory to state where you want to live in the country even before traveling to the country. Getting an address in the United States depends on the type of visa you are applying for. Most visa types require a permanent residential address that would be verified while some types of visa like the tourist visa allows immigrants to stay in a temporary residential address like motel, hotel etc. As an immigrant in the United States, some occurrences may make one to change one’s address or environment. Changing address should be done without notifying the US immigration beforehand. A change in address before legal notification of the US immigration will be seen as an attempt to hide in the country as an illegal immigrant, which can surely lead to getting arrested or deported. In special cases like entertainers who are in the country to attend different events in the country, this will be stated during their visa interview so that they can be immune to the change in address law till the events are over.
