If you're a business owner in an African city like Cairo or Casablanca, you need a select a decent web host for your site. Specifically, do you go for an international brand like Hostgator, or do you choose someone with a local presence?
Normally, you would choose a service that has data centers within the continent - preferably closer to your destination. But Africa is a special case. It has unique challenges that influence the choice of web hosting. As a result, even though Hostgator's servers are located in the United States, it can still be an excellent choice for an Africa-based website. Here are three reasons why.
Hostgator Coupons, Prices, and Discounts
Amongst the major web hosts, Hostgator coupon codes are ones that give the maximum savings. For example, with the right coupon, you can get a 78% discount at WP-Tweaks, which maintains a list of every code at Hostgator. Here's a screenshot illustrating three different coupons with various discount ranges:
Other providers like SiteGround also have high savings. But none of them go as low as Hostgator, and neither are they as cheap. For example, even though SiteGround's discounted shared hosting starts at $3.95, the actual price after the first billing cycle becomes $11.95. That's 116 Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) a year!
If you're looking at Egypt, the price for basic SiteGround hosting is 201 Egyptian pounds (EGP). In Nigeria, it's 4,304 Nigerian Naira (NGN). That's quite expensive for African customers, where price is a key driving factor in web hosting. There are local African web hosting companies in Nigeria and Morocco, but they all have comparable or higher prices than Hostgator.
So even though it's an international company, Hostgator coupon codes allow for very favorable pricing compared to local hosting services in Africa.
Hostgator is More Reliable Compared to African Web Hosts
For various reasons, infrastructure isn't as reliable in Africa as it is in the United States, Europe, or in countries like Singapore. That's why it's sometimes better to have a datacenter outside the country or continent in which you operate.
In a way, this is a lot like India's situation. Even though there are plenty of Indian hosting companies, it's not a great place to maintain data centers. This report from Cushman & Wakefield shows that countries like Singapore are better for hosting than India.
Africa is similar. You're better off locating your server in the US like with Hostgator, instead of a local company. Also, Africa is a large continent. Having "servers in Africa" means nothing if you don't know exactly where they're located. If you can manage it, it could be far better to have a data center located close by in a nearer country instead of within the same continent.
Hostgator has two data centers located in the US. Given the size and power of the Endurance group (Hostgator's holding company), these are state-of-the-art centers, maintained round the clock, privately owned, and not co-located, unlike with web hosts in a local datacenter. So given a choice between Hostgator and a local firm, I would choose Hostgator each time.
Cloudflare is a Good Enough CDN
All Hostgator plans come with in-built Cloudflare integration, regardless of which coupon you use. This means that you get access to Cloudflare's network of POPs - several of which are located in Africa. Plus, Cloudflare will route your traffic through the most efficient EDGE server, regardless of location.
So if your client is in Morocco, they might connect to a server in France via the Charles de Gaulle EDGE server, which is extremely close. Or the one in Italy. Either way, you're assured of getting an excellent response time compared to all other CDNs.
And integrating Cloudflare with Hostgator is as easy as clicking a button from within cPanel. So you're all set.
Bottom Line: Hostgator's pricing is every bit as affordable as any African web host, thanks to their coupon codes, which give extremely high discounts. Combined with extremely reliable data centers that are well-maintained, it becomes a viable proposition to host your servers with them. So despite Hostgator not being a local provider, it's still an excellent host for African businesses.
