There are many different types of events. Each event’s requirements will therefore vary and sometimes this would involve the need for special event permits.
Here are some of the most common situations where you will need to secure one.
1. Food Permit
Most events involve food one way or another. Whether you intend to just serve or Giveaway food and beverages or to sell them, you will need to secure a Temporary Food Facility Sponsor Permit. If you have food vendors at your event, they will need their own permit too.
2. Alcohol Use
Your event venue may have certain restrictions on how alcohol must be managed at your event. In this case, you might need to secure permits from the Police Department, city, or state.
3. Street Activities
Streets and sidewalks are usually public property. You can't just set up an event there any time you want to even if it's just for sampling, couponing or distributing flyers. Regardless of the type, size, and duration of your street activity, you will need a permit from the city.
4. Park Use
Public parks have their own rules and regulations regarding may different things including alcohol use, entertainment, hours, etc. If you are organizing an event for large groups in a public park, you will also need to obtain one or more permits depending on your event.
5. Fireworks and Lasers
Fireworks, lasers, and other pyrotechnics can be dangerous and so their use in your event must be approved by certain officials. Aside from the local fire department, you might need to get a permit from the city as well.
