The ANC Womens League is too mighty an organisation to not know it has the power to bring us a clear understanding of our histories for us to believe in the power of Women Leadership fortifying the future of South Africa.
Forgive Us Mama, Who Do Not Know
It is one thing to speak of the reality that Education in the Republic of South Africa is modelled more in favour of the emulation of Western Successes, than the creation of capacities which can lead us to the African Renaissance. It is another thing completely, to be honest with one another about the extent of the repercussions of this.
During and After the completion of one’s education, the interest and development agenda’s of individuals and collectives tend to be directed towards the same Western Ideals our education preconditions us towards.
But who is to blame when we do not know better than to shun those who raised these points like Mama Winnie who wrote, before the 90’s, of the dangers of emulating Western Standards.
Who is to blame when the majority of the African population is unaware of the reality that Asia and Europe have intra-continental trade of up to 70% while Africa is still well below 15% while being a major exporter to the rest of the world.
When the resources leave, they leave with their capacity and potential for opportunities, only to return as leeches, to drain the monetary resources we have for us to acquire, or reacquire them. Madness really when we consider that there is no machinery we do not have the capacity to acquire or create, we have a capable workforce population with those between the ages of 15 and 24 making up 20% of the 1.2 Billion Population in Africa. For the sake of speaking money, Sub Saharan Africa alone is considered to have the capacity to have a GDP of $29 Trillion by 2050.
Hopefully I now have your full attention with some of your educational preconditioning disturbed and the reality and imminence of the African Renaissance feeling like more of a Responsibility endowed with opportunities for you and yours.
Mama, was intelligence, Intelligence was Mama. One does not have to agree with the ideals of intelligence to recognise it.
Many, by Matric and some even after the completion of PhD’s, living in, practicing in and raising children in South Africa cannot articulate the struggles and importance of the decisions taken in the formulation and sustenance of this Democracy, nor the theories of Leadership leading to our present reality.
One can go an entire lifetime knowing not one Lembede, Sankara, Garvey, Nkrumah, Sisulu thought, idea’s which even today are relevant because they still require diligent strategizing for implementation.
So what about Mama?
With Mass Media not requiring any oath to only share truth and substantiated facts, Maybe we need not ask those who mislead us about Leadership figures but those who while knowing the truth, keep silent or attack the victim. Even today.
The ANC Women’s League bases its support of prima facie immorality and corruption within the ANC on the fact that one of its roles is to support and stand by ANC Leadership.
There is strong historical evidence of the importance of this support but very little evidence as to the value and accountability, if any, the supported offers to the supporting group; as with Mama.
The ANC Women’s league seems to choose the directionality of its support on factors that are not influenced by the realities and statistics in the Republic. They might or might not be aware of their power as they continue to be considered as incorruptible though they choose to support the accused and rarely ever the accuser, when an ANC Male leader is in question regardless of the vulnerability of the victim. And thereafter, making no statements to be understood for their silence in matters where guilt is clear.
We can continue to blame the West, rightfully so, for many phenomena. But we are also to begin to look at ourselves and the weaknesses within our own institutions and the role they play in disempowering our people even further. These institutions, like the ANC WL have the ability to fortify a true understanding of our histories and lead us in building capacities towards a prosperous nation and continent.
The ANC WL is too mighty, to not know it has a larger responsibility to the continent than it currently exercises. The truth of this is clearly defined in Mama’s strength, who remained a powerhouse after the tarnishing of her reputation.
We need to hear the stories from the inside. So we can learn the lessons. So we can all believe in the ability and capability of the African Woman to lead the Nation outside the confines of submission.
We can begin with Mama. Then Khwezi. And they can tell us why.
