The Inevitability of Nepotism.
Just when I expected activists for women empowerment to shower Ivanka Trump with praise and reverence, the media is awash with admonition following the incident when she briefly sat with other world leaders, in place of her father, at the G20 summit in Germany.
Just when I thought that that would be an opportunity to celebrate another step where society is slowly transitioning from its original patriarchal paradigm to embracing women in leadership roles, many of the media pundits could only think of nepotism.
“Is this indifference in the media because of its usual cyber-fights with Donald Trump?”, I wondered.
Nepotism is openly, a characteristic of many governments in Africa and covertly, a characteristic of those in the West and Europe.
However, Donald Trump has followed the African way of embracing nepotism by openly fronting “his very own” when it comes to his government.
Before we continue with castigation of these many nepotistic governments, do you think nepotism can be done away with, or it’s an innate, eternal human instinct? Can you really not favor your very own?
